VOC emissions from car production in the EU

The amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC) emitted per passenger car produced has been cut by 47% by European car manufacturers since 2005.

Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are organic solvents mainly emitted from paint shops. The graph shows VOC emissions per car produced and the absolute emissions of all car manufacturers combined.

With new technologies, such as the replacement of solvent-based paints with solvent-free, water-based equivalents manufacturers have been able to reduce total VOC emissions by 61% over the last 17 years.
