Job opportunity: Vehicle Safety Assessment Manager

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) is looking for an experienced Vehicle Safety Assessment Manager to help guide the industry’s response to safety requirement programmes.
Job description
Reporting to ACEA’s Chief Technology Officer and under the area of responsibility of the Head of Safety, the Safety Assessment Manager will:
- Represent ACEA and its members in our discussions with Euro NCAP and other non-regulatory assessment organisations
- Develop ACEA positions on vehicle safety assessment for passenger cars, trucks and busses
- Manage ACEA ENCAP expert groups with and for ACEA members and partners
- Monitor trends in safety assessment and inform ACEA management accordingly
- Develop ACEA strategies and positions on vehicle safety assessment. Oversee the creation of a consensus amongst ACEA members and other stakeholders
- Ensure that the members of the ACEA NCAP community are informed of key developments on vehicle safety assessment programmes. Analyse and interpret assessment programme protocols and drafts for further development and consultation
- Establish, organise, manage, and steer expert groups working on safety assessment programmes
- Plan for technical studies and use them to effectively reach ACEA objectives. Apply for and monitor the corresponding budget within the ACEA organisation
- Actively liaise and advocate with Euro NCAP and other international assessment bodies, NGOs, and associations (such as CLEPA, BASt, ADAC, FIA, member countries of Euro NCAP, etc) to establish pragmatic vehicle-specific safety assessment protocols that meet the objective of the vehicle industry
- Represent ACEA at international conferences and meetings
- Report to ACEA’s Head of Safety and Chief Technology Officer on significant developments within the NCAP field
Profile
- Successfully completed a degree in vehicle engineering or a comparable course of study
- At least five to ten years of experience as a specialist or manager in different positions at a vehicle manufacturer
- At least three years of experience leading interdisciplinary and international project teams
- At least three years of experience in vehicle R&D, whole vehicle development, technical regulations, or similar duties
- Personal interest in vehicle technology; willingness to expand professional activities beyond the field of safety if the need arises
- Very good communication and networking skills. Capability to describe complex technical systems to non-experts
- Ability to listen to and steer discussions to find consensus and compromise amongst competing parties
- Fluent English skills. Any other language is an asset
- Based in Brussels, or eligible and open to become based in Belgium
