Fact sheet: EU-UK vehicle trade

The UK is the EU’s number one market for vehicle exports by volume. It is also the biggest export market for EU-made battery-electric vehicles.
This fact sheet looks at vehicle trade flows between the EU and the UK, and focuses on the UK battery-electric car market.
- Over 20% of the 6.3 million EU vehicle exports went to the UK in 2022, worth €30.6 billion.
- More than one in 10 EU-made cars exported to the UK in 2022 (1.1 million units) were battery-electric, worth €5.1 billion.
- The EU’s share of the UK battery-electric car market increased from 44% in 2019 to 47% in 2022.
- China’s share of the UK battery-electric car market increased from around 2% in 2019 to almost 32% in 2022.
- 62% of UK vehicle exports went to the EU in 2022.
- In terms of value, the EU represents nearly 70% of the UK’s vehicle imports.
