Interactive map – Correlation between electric car sales and charging point availability (2022 data)
This map visualises the correlation between sales of electrically-chargeable vehicles (ECVs) and the availability of charging infrastructure for each of the 27 member states of the European Union.
Key findings
- Almost 42% of all charging points for electric cars are concentrated in only two EU countries: the Netherlands (111,821 chargers) and Germany (87,674).
- These two countries together make up less than 10% of the entire EU surface area.
- The rest of all chargers are scattered throughout the remaining 90% of the region’s surface area.
- The Netherlands – the country with the highest share of infrastructure – has almost 70 times more charging points than Romania (1,658), which is roughly seven times bigger.
Top 5: countries with the MOST public charging points in the EU
- Netherlands (111,821)
- Germany (87,674)
- France (83,317)
- Italy (37,186)
- Spain (34,380)
